The dermis is considered a true layer of the skin. It's also known as the true skin because it houses vital functions and structures of the skin. The dermis is made up of connective tissue, blood vessels, nerves, glands, and hair follicles. It provides the skin with structure and resilience.
The epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, is also considered a true layer. However, the subcutaneous layer, which is the layer beneath the dermis, is not considered a true layer of the skin.
