What is skin asthma?

Published in Skin Condition 1 min read

"Skin asthma" is not a recognized medical term. It is likely that you are referring to atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema.

Atopic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes inflammation, redness, and irritation. It is often linked to asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), or food allergies, a progression known as the "atopic march." Like asthma affects the lungs, atopic dermatitis affects the skin, both being related to the immune system's response to certain triggers.

While not literally "skin asthma," atopic dermatitis shares similarities with asthma in its underlying mechanism, as both involve a heightened immune response and inflammation in their respective organs.
