What Temperature Kills Skin Mites?

Published in Skin Mite Treatment 1 min read

Temperatures in excess of 50°C or 122°F for 10 minutes will kill skin mites (including scabies mites) and their eggs.

Here's a breakdown of how heat and other methods can eliminate mites:

  • High Heat: Exposing items to temperatures above 50°C (122°F) for at least 10 minutes is effective in killing mites and their eggs.

  • Alternative Methods (for items that can't be heated):

    • Dry Cleaning: This process uses high heat and chemicals, which can kill mites.
    • Sealing in Plastic Bags: Seal the infested items in a plastic bag for at least 72 hours to up to one week. This deprives the mites of a food source, leading to their demise.
  • Important Note: Avoid direct skin-to-skin contact with others until your treatment is finished.
