What is a Pit Scar?

Published in Skin Scarring 1 min read

A pit scar, often called a pitted scar or ice pick scar, is a hollow indentation in the skin, frequently a result of inflammatory acne.

These scars develop when significant collagen loss occurs during the skin's healing process after an acne breakout. When the skin attempts to regenerate and repair the damage, it may not produce enough collagen to completely fill the void. This leads to the formation of noticeable depressions or pits on the skin's surface. This type of scarring is often a long-term reminder of previous acne issues.
