Human skin secretions are produced by three types of different glands: apocrine, eccrine, and sebaceous.
- Apocrine glands are located in the armpits, groin, and around the nipples. They secrete a thick, milky substance that is odorless when first produced, but can develop a strong odor when it comes into contact with bacteria on the skin.
- Eccrine glands are found all over the body, but are most concentrated on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and forehead. They secrete a watery substance called sweat, which helps to regulate body temperature.
- Sebaceous glands are located in the hair follicles and produce an oily substance called sebum. Sebum helps to keep the skin moisturized and protected from the elements.
These secretions play a crucial role in protecting the skin from various factors, including dryness, bacteria, and environmental damage.
