How does molecular water work?

Molecular water, referring to micellar water in this context, works by utilizing tiny oil molecules called micelles suspended in soft water to effectively cleanse skin and remove makeup without requiring harsh rubbing or rinsing.

Here's a breakdown of how it works:

  • Micelle Formation: The key to micellar water lies in the structure of micelles. Micelles are formed when amphiphilic molecules (molecules with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions) aggregate in water. The hydrophobic (water-repelling) tails point inwards, forming a sphere, while the hydrophilic (water-attracting) heads face outwards, interacting with the surrounding water.

  • Drawing Out Impurities: When micellar water is applied to the skin, the hydrophobic tails of the micelles attract and trap oil, dirt, makeup, and other impurities.

  • Suspension in Water: Because the hydrophilic heads of the micelles are attracted to water, the captured impurities remain suspended in the water, preventing them from redepositing back onto the skin.

  • Gentle Cleansing: This process allows for effective cleansing without the need for harsh scrubbing, which can irritate the skin. The soft water base also helps to prevent dryness.

  • No-Rinse Formula: The micellar structure and the way it suspends impurities allows for a no-rinse formula. The clean water and suspended impurities are simply wiped away with a cotton pad, leaving the skin clean and refreshed.
