What is Day 1 of Skin Cycling?

Published in Skincare Routine 2 mins read

Day 1 of skin cycling focuses on exfoliation. This involves using either a physical exfoliant (like a scrub) or a chemical exfoliant containing AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) or BHAs (beta hydroxy acids). The choice depends on your skin type and concerns. Chemical exfoliants, such as those with glycolic acid or lactic acid (AHAs) or salicylic acid (BHA), promote gradual cell turnover and renewal.

Choosing Your Exfoliant:

  • Physical Exfoliants: These scrubs use small particles to physically remove dead skin cells. Choose one with gentle, fine particles to avoid irritation.
  • Chemical Exfoliants: These use acids to dissolve dead skin cells. AHAs are generally better for dry or sensitive skin, while BHAs are often preferred for oily or acne-prone skin.

Remember to follow up exfoliation with a moisturizer to hydrate your skin. The goal is to gently remove dead skin cells to allow for better penetration of other active ingredients later in the cycle.

Important Note: Skin cycling is a four-day routine, with day 1 dedicated to exfoliation. It is followed by a retinoid application on day 2, and days 3 and 4 are dedicated to skin recovery and hydration. This cycle is repeated. The specific products and frequency should be tailored to your skin’s unique needs and tolerance.
