Can I apply sunscreen every hour?

Published in Skincare 1 min read

While it's generally recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours, applying it every hour won't harm your skin. In fact, it can be more beneficial, especially if you're spending extended periods outdoors, swimming, or sweating.

Here's why reapplying sunscreen frequently is a good idea:

  • Sunscreen effectiveness decreases over time: Sunscreen protection gradually diminishes as it's exposed to sunlight, sweat, and water.
  • Maintaining consistent protection: Frequent reapplication ensures your skin stays consistently protected from harmful UV rays.
  • Protecting against sunburns: Reapplying sunscreen helps prevent painful sunburns and long-term skin damage.

Remember:

  • Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Apply sunscreen generously and evenly to all exposed skin.
  • Reapply sunscreen after swimming, sweating, or toweling off.

However, if you're mainly indoors and have minimal sun exposure, applying sunscreen every two hours is sufficient.
