Can I wash my face with soap?

Published in Skincare 2 mins read

While you can technically wash your face with soap, most experts recommend against it. Soap, even the mildest kinds, can be too harsh and drying for your facial skin. This is because soaps are designed to remove grease and grime, which can strip away the natural oils your skin needs to stay healthy and hydrated.

Alternatives to Soap for Facial Cleansing:

  • Plant-derived natural oils: These oils can cleanse your skin gently without drying it out.
  • Facial cleansers: These are specially formulated to be gentle on your skin and remove dirt and makeup without stripping away natural oils.
  • Castile soap: Some people find that castile soap, made from olive oil, is a gentler alternative to regular soap. However, it is important to use a very small amount and rinse thoroughly.
  • Water: If your skin is very sensitive, you may be able to get away with just washing your face with water.

Note: If you have oily skin and find that using soap doesn't dry your skin out, it may be acceptable for you to use it occasionally. However, it's always best to consult with a dermatologist to determine what's best for your specific skin type.
