What is oily skin?

Oily skin, also known as seborrhea, is a common skin condition caused by overproduction of sebum, the natural oil our skin needs to stay healthy. Sebum helps keep our skin hydrated and protected, but too much can lead to problems like acne and a shiny, greasy appearance.

Key characteristics of oily skin include:

  • Shiny skin: This is especially noticeable on the forehead, nose, and chin (the T-zone).
  • Enlarged pores: Larger pores can trap excess sebum and debris, contributing to breakouts.

  • Avoiding harsh products: Overly abrasive cleansers and scrubs can irritate the skin and trigger more oil production.
  • Staying hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help to flush out toxins and keep skin hydrated.
  • Managing stress: Stress can worsen oily skin. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time in nature.
