Which Dua Makes You Sleep?

Published in Sleep Duas 2 mins read

There isn't one single dua specifically guaranteed to induce sleep, but several are commonly recited before bed to promote relaxation and peace, leading to better sleep. The effectiveness varies from person to person, and it's important to remember that a consistent sleep hygiene routine is crucial.

Recommended Duas for Sleep

Several sources mention different duas that can be recited before sleep. These are often combined with other practices like performing Wudu (ablution). Examples include:

  • "Bismika Rabbi wada'tu janbi, wa bika arfa'uhu." This translates to: "In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and by You, I raise myself." This simple dua focuses on surrendering to God's will before sleep and upon waking.

  • Allahumma innaka khalaqta nafsee wa-anta tawaffaha, laka mamatuha wamahyaha in ahyaytaha fahfathha, wa-in amattaha faghfir laha. This dua acknowledges God's creation and control over life and death, seeking protection and forgiveness. It's a supplication for a peaceful death and a good afterlife.

  • A longer dua mentioned in various sources, often transliterated as: Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa-ana 'abduk, wa-ana 'ala 'ahdika wawa'dika mas-tata't, a'oothu bika min sharri ma sana't, aboo-o laka bini'matika 'alay, wa-aboo-o bithanbee, faghfir lee fa-innahu la yaghfiru-thunaba illa ant. This is a comprehensive supplication acknowledging God's sovereignty and seeking forgiveness for sins.

  • Reciting Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 56, is also suggested by some as a means to aid sleep.

The supplication, “Make my night comforting for me, and bring sleep unto my eyes,” is another commonly cited dua for restful sleep.

Important Considerations

While these duas may promote relaxation and a sense of peace, they are not a replacement for addressing underlying sleep disorders. Consult a healthcare professional if you experience persistent sleep problems.
