How Do You Use the Snagit Magic Wand?

Published in Snagit Editing 2 mins read

The Snagit magic wand tool is used to select and delete areas of an image based on color similarity. It's particularly effective for removing solid color backgrounds or isolating irregularly shaped objects.

Here's how to use the Snagit magic wand:

  1. Open Your Image: Open the image you want to edit in Snagit Editor.

  2. Select the Magic Wand Tool: In the Snagit Editor toolbar, locate and select the "Magic Wand" tool.

  3. Click on the Color to Select: Click on the color within the image that you want to select and remove. For example, if you want to remove a white background, click on the white area.

  4. Adjust Tolerance (if needed): The "Tolerance" setting determines how similar a color must be to the color you clicked on in order to be selected. A higher tolerance will select a wider range of colors, while a lower tolerance will select a narrower range. You can usually adjust this in the tool's properties panel. Experiment to find the right setting for your image.

  5. Delete or Modify the Selection: Once the area is selected, you can delete it (press the Delete key), fill it with another color, or apply other editing effects.

Key Uses and Benefits:

  • Removing Backgrounds: Excellent for isolating objects by removing solid color backgrounds.
  • Selecting Irregular Shapes: Helps select objects with complex outlines that are difficult to select with rectangular or freehand tools.
  • Working with Solid Colors: Most effective when dealing with images that have areas of solid, consistent color.
