A cockroach named Hope is the animal that gave birth in space.
In 2007, Russian scientists celebrated the successful birth of 33 cockroaches, offspring of Hope, aboard a Foton-M satellite. This event marked the first instance of an animal conceiving and giving birth in the unique environment of space. Previous experiments had sent various animals into space, including guinea pigs, frogs, cats, wasps, beetles, and a chimpanzee, but Hope's birth was the first confirmed instance of space-borne gestation and birth.
