The full form of SRTM satellite is Shuttle Radar Topography Mission.
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) was an international research effort that obtained digital elevation models on a near-global scale. It was led by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) (now the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)) of the U.S. Department of Defense, and NASA. Launched on February 11, 2000, aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, its primary goal was to acquire radar data to create a high-resolution digital topographic database of the Earth. This database is used in various applications, including mapping, surveying, and geographic information systems (GIS). The mission successfully mapped over 80% of the Earth's land surface.
