How Can You Change the Row?

Published in Spreadsheet Formatting 2 mins read

You can change the height of a row in a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel by adjusting its row height. Here's how:

Steps to Change Row Height

  1. Select the Row(s): First, click on the row number(s) on the left side of the spreadsheet that you want to modify. You can select multiple contiguous rows by clicking and dragging down the row numbers or non-contiguous rows by holding down the Ctrl key (or Cmd key on a Mac) while clicking on each row number.

  2. Navigate to Format Options: Go to the "Home" tab on the ribbon. In the "Cells" group, find and click on "Format".

  3. Choose Row Height: A dropdown menu will appear. Under the "Cell Size" section, select "Row Height".

  4. Enter the Desired Height: A dialog box will pop up prompting you to enter the desired row height. Type the value you want in the "Row height" box. This value represents the height in points (approximately 1/72 of an inch).

  5. Confirm and Apply: Click "OK" to apply the new row height to the selected row(s).

Alternative Methods

  • Drag the Row Boundary: Hover your mouse over the bottom edge of the row number until your cursor changes to a double-headed arrow. Click and drag the row boundary up or down to manually adjust the row height.

  • AutoFit Row Height: Select the row(s) and then, in the "Format" dropdown (Home > Cells > Format), choose "AutoFit Row Height." This option automatically adjusts the row height to fit the content of the cells in that row. This is particularly useful when the text in a cell is wrapped and you need to ensure all text is visible.

  • Using Right-Click Menu: Select the row(s), right-click on the selected row number(s), and choose "Row Height..." from the context menu. The "Row Height" dialog box will appear, allowing you to enter the desired height.

By following these steps, you can easily customize the row height in your spreadsheet to improve readability and presentation.
