How to Add Transitions in Storyboard Pro

Published in Storyboard Pro Transitions 2 mins read

Adding transitions between scenes in Storyboard Pro helps visually connect shots and control the flow of your narrative. The primary method for inserting a transition directly utilizes the scene thumbnails.

Here's how you can easily add a transition:

  1. Locate the Scene Thumbnails: Find the scene thumbnails in your Storyboard Pro project interface. These typically represent each shot or panel in your sequence.
  2. Right-Click: Right-click on the thumbnail of the scene after where you want the transition to begin (or between the two scenes you want to transition between).
  3. Select "Add Transition": From the context menu that appears after right-clicking, choose the option Add Transition.

Result:

  • A transition will be automatically inserted between the two shots or scenes.

By default, Storyboard Pro inserts a dissolve transition when you use this method.

Changing the Transition Type

Once a transition is added, you aren't limited to just a dissolve. You can easily change its type to better suit the desired visual effect.

Here's how to modify an existing transition:

  1. Select the Transition: Click on the transition icon or representation that appears between the scene thumbnails.
  2. Choose Your Method:
    • Double-Click: Simply double-click the selected transition.
    • Panel View: Alternatively, with the transition selected, go to the relevant Panel view (which might be labelled Properties, Transition Properties, or similar depending on your workspace setup).
  3. Change the Type: In the dialog box (from double-clicking) or the Panel view options, you will find a dropdown or list of available transition types. Select the desired type from options like:
    • Dissolve (Default)
    • Edge Wipe
    • Clock Wipe
    • And potentially others depending on your Storyboard Pro version.

This allows you to customize the transition effect between your shots, enhancing the visual storytelling of your project.
