How Much SPF Do You Need?

Published in Sun Protection 1 min read

You should use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. While higher SPF numbers might seem like they offer more protection, the difference in protection between SPF 30 and SPF 50 is minimal.

Here's why:

  • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays.
  • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays.

The difference in protection is only 1%, which is not significant enough to justify choosing a higher SPF.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Apply sunscreen liberally and evenly to all exposed skin.
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
  • Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

Remember: Sunscreen alone isn't enough to protect your skin from the sun. You should also wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and a hat when spending time outdoors.
