How to Check TB at Home?

Published in TB Diagnosis 2 mins read

You can't accurately check for tuberculosis (TB) at home. TB is a serious infection that requires a medical diagnosis by a doctor. While there are home remedies for managing symptoms, they cannot diagnose TB.

To confirm TB, you need specific medical tests such as:

  • Skin Test: A small amount of a liquid containing TB bacteria is injected under the skin. The area is checked 48 to 72 hours later for swelling and redness.
  • Blood Test: This test measures your immune response to TB.
  • Sputum Culture: This involves collecting a sample of your mucus (phlegm) for lab testing.

If you're concerned about having TB, the best way to determine if you have it is to see your doctor. They will discuss your symptoms, risk factors, and recommend appropriate tests.

Here are some common TB symptoms:

  • Cough lasting more than 3 weeks
  • Coughing up mucus (phlegm)
  • Coughing up blood
  • Feeling tired or exhausted
  • High temperature or night sweats
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Feeling generally unwell

Important Note: It's important to remember that these symptoms can also be caused by other conditions. Only a doctor can provide a definitive diagnosis.
