The country that invented tea is China.
According to legend, the story of tea began in 2737 BC in China. Emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a tree while his servant boiled water for drinking. Some leaves from the tree blew into the water, creating a beverage that the emperor found refreshing. This accidental discovery is often credited as the origin of tea consumption.
While the legend might be apocryphal, archaeological and historical evidence strongly supports China as the birthplace of tea. For centuries, tea cultivation and consumption remained largely within China. From there, it gradually spread to other parts of Asia, and eventually, the rest of the world.
