Sewing thread, particularly polyester thread, is typically dyed using specialized methods involving specific dye types and processes.
For polyester sewing thread, dyeing is normally achieved using disperse dyes. This process takes place in three simultaneous steps.
There are two primary methods commonly used for dyeing polyester yarn (which is then made into thread):
- The Carrier Method: This method utilizes chemical carriers to help the disperse dyes penetrate the polyester fiber at lower temperatures. It is often found in the cottage industry.
- HT/HP (High Temperature and High Pressure) Methods: This method uses high temperature and pressure conditions to facilitate dye penetration without the need for carriers.
These methods ensure that the color is fixed firmly within the synthetic fibers, resulting in durable and vibrant threads suitable for various sewing applications.
