What is a Tile Kiln?

Published in Tile Manufacturing Equipment 1 min read

A tile kiln is a specialized type of kiln used in the final stage of ceramic tile manufacturing.

Based on the manufacturing process, raw materials are first shaped into what are known as green tiles. The crucial final step involves transforming these unfired green tiles into durable finished tiles through firing.

This is where the tile kiln plays its essential role. It is the equipment used to fire these green tiles at extremely high temperatures, specifically exceeding 2,000°F. This intense heat causes physical and chemical changes in the clay body, hardening it and giving the tile its final strength, porosity, and other characteristics.

In summary, a tile kiln serves as the high-temperature furnace where formed but unfired tiles undergo the critical firing process to become the finished product.
