How to Remove Wood Stain from Tile

Published in Tile Stain Removal 2 mins read

To remove wood stain from tile, a popular and often effective method involves using a simple household ingredient: baking soda.

Using Baking Soda Paste

According to one approach, the best solution for this is to apply baking soda paste and mask it with masking tape for 24 hours and remove, check, and re-do it if required.

Here are the steps involved:

  1. Prepare the Paste: Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to create a thick paste.
  2. Apply the Paste: Carefully apply the baking soda paste directly onto the wood stain area on the tile. Ensure the stain is completely covered.
  3. Mask the Area: Mask it with masking tape for 24 hours. This helps keep the paste moist and allows it to work on lifting the stain.
  4. Remove and Clean: After 24 hours, remove the masking tape and the dried paste. Wipe the area clean with a damp cloth.
  5. Check and Repeat: Inspect the tile to see if the stain has been removed. If traces of the stain remain, you may need to re-do it if required. Repeat the process by applying fresh paste and masking the area again.

This method works by drawing the stain out of the porous surface of the tile or grout lines.

Alternative Methods

Sometimes, even baking soda fails. In that case, we have certain chemicals to pull up the stain faster and cleaner. If the baking soda method doesn't fully remove the stain, you may need to consider using chemical stain removers specifically designed for tile or the type of stain you are dealing with. Always test any chemical cleaner on an inconspicuous area first and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, ensuring good ventilation.

Remember to identify the type of tile you have (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, etc.) as different materials may react differently to cleaning agents.
