How do you check your air?

Published in Tire Maintenance 2 mins read

To check your tire air pressure, you'll need a tire pressure gauge and to locate the valve stem on each tire.

Steps to check your tire pressure:

  1. Locate the valve stem: Find the valve stem on each tire, including the spare tire.
  2. Remove the valve cap: Unscrew and remove the cap from the valve stem. Keep it in a safe place.
  3. Use the pressure gauge: Take the pressure gauge and firmly press it onto the valve stem. This will give you a reading of the current air pressure in the tire.
  4. Check the pressure: Compare the reading on the gauge with the recommended tire pressure (found in your car's manual or on a sticker on the driver's side doorjamb).
  5. Adjust as needed: If the pressure is too low, add air until the correct pressure is reached. If the pressure is too high, release air. The video reference explains that you can use the small nub on the back of the gauge to release air.
  6. Repeat for all tires: Do this for each tire, including the spare.

Importance of Checking Tire Pressure

  • Safety: Proper tire pressure is important for safe vehicle operation. Underinflated tires can lead to reduced handling and increased risk of blowouts.
  • Fuel efficiency: Properly inflated tires roll more efficiently, which can improve your gas mileage.
  • Tire lifespan: Keeping your tires properly inflated can help extend their lifespan.
