How do you change a drill bit on a drill?

Published in Tools & DIY 1 min read

Changing a drill bit involves loosening the chuck, inserting the new bit, and tightening the chuck to secure it. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Loosen the Chuck: Hold the drill steady and rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws. The chuck is the part at the front of the drill that holds the bit. You may hear clicking sounds as it loosens.

  2. Remove the Old Bit (if any): If there's an old bit in the drill, it should now be loose enough to pull out.

  3. Insert the New Bit: Place the new drill bit into the chuck, ensuring it's centered.

  4. Tighten the Chuck: While holding the drill steady, rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws around the new drill bit. Continue tightening until the bit is securely held in place. You want it tight enough so that it doesn't slip during drilling.
