How do I set the touch lock on my iPhone?

To set a touch lock on your iPhone, you need to use the Guided Access feature. Here's how:

Enabling Guided Access

  1. Go to Settings: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Accessibility: Scroll down and tap on "Accessibility".
  3. Guided Access: Under the "General" section, tap on "Guided Access".
  4. Toggle On: Switch the "Guided Access" toggle to the ON position.
  5. Passcode Settings: Tap "Passcode Settings" to create a passcode that will be needed to disable guided access. You can also enable the use of Touch ID or Face ID to end the session.

Starting a Guided Access Session

Now that Guided Access is enabled and set up. To use the touch lock you can now start a guided access session.

  1. Open the App: Open the app that you want to lock. For example, the YouTube app.
  2. Triple-Click: If you have an iPhone with a side button, triple-click it. If you have an iPhone with a home button, triple-click the home button.
  3. Start Guided Access: Tap "Guided Access" to start the session. If this is the first time, you will need to tap "start" in the top right of the screen.
  4. Circle the area: Optionally circle an area of the screen to disable specific areas. For example if you only want the youtube video to play and not allow any controls you could circle everything but the video.
  5. Begin session Tap "Start" at the top right of the screen to begin the Guided Access Session

Your screen is now locked, making it so that the touch screen will not respond to touches or other inputs, aside from the specified area.

Ending a Guided Access Session

To end the session you will need to triple click the side or home button again.

  1. Triple Click: Triple-click the side button or home button, depending on your iPhone model.
  2. Enter Passcode: If you have a passcode set up for Guided Access, you will need to enter it. Alternatively, use Touch ID or Face ID if you enabled them.
  3. Tap End: Tap "End" at the top left of the screen.

Now that guided access is ended your screen will respond to touch inputs normally.

Important Note: As referenced in the YouTube video, triple clicking the lock button (side button) or the home button starts Guided Access if it's enabled in your settings.
