How can I remove an airlock?

Published in Troubleshooting 2 mins read

An airlock is a pocket of air trapped in a liquid line, which can prevent the liquid from flowing properly. To remove an airlock, you can try the following methods:

  • For a plumbing airlock:

    • Use a hose to connect the hot water tap to the cold water tap. This will create a siphon effect that can draw the air out of the pipes.
    • Turn on the hot water for a few seconds, then the cold water, and keep both on for about a minute.
    • Now, turn off the cold water then the hot water tap. Water will fill up inside the hose and pressure should build up to break the airlock.
  • For a car cooling system airlock:

    • Locate the bleed points on the cooling system.
    • Open the bleed points and allow the coolant to flow out until the air bubbles are gone.
    • Close the bleed points and add more coolant if necessary.
  • For a fermentation airlock:

    • Remove the airlock carefully.
    • Clean and sanitize the airlock.
    • Replace the airlock and continue fermentation.
  • For a Nespresso Vertuo machine:

    • Check if the machine is properly plugged in and turned on.
    • Try to run the machine again.
    • If the problem persists, you may need to contact Nespresso customer support.

Remember, the specific steps for removing an airlock will vary depending on the situation. Always consult the relevant user manual or a qualified professional for assistance if needed.
