How to Conceive Twins: Tips for Having Multiples

Published in Twins 1 min read

While there is no guaranteed way to conceive twins, certain factors can increase your chances.

  • Age: Women over 30 have a higher chance of conceiving twins than younger women. This is because as women age, their bodies produce more of the hormone follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which can trigger the release of multiple eggs.
  • Family History: Having twins in your family increases your likelihood of having them yourself. This is because the tendency to release multiple eggs can be inherited.
  • Fertility Treatments: Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like in vitro fertilization (IVF) significantly increase the chances of having twins. This is because multiple embryos are often implanted during IVF, increasing the possibility of multiple pregnancies.
  • Previous Twin Pregnancies: If you've previously had twins, you have a slightly increased chance of having them again in subsequent pregnancies.

It's important to note that these factors do not guarantee a twin pregnancy. While they might increase the odds, the chance of conceiving twins is still relatively low.
