How Do You Use a Drywall Roll Lifter?

Published in Uncategorized 2 mins read

Using a drywall roll lifter is a simple way to lift heavy drywall panels into place for installation, making the job easier for one person.

Using a Drywall Roll Lifter Effectively

A drywall roll lifter, often called a panel lifter or foot lifter, is a basic hand tool designed to help installers raise the bottom edge of a drywall sheet slightly off the floor. This allows the sheet to be held firmly against the framing while being fastened, ensuring a tight fit, especially at the top edge against the ceiling or upper framing.

The process is straightforward and requires minimal effort, primarily using your foot.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using a Drywall Roll Lifter

Follow these simple steps to use a drywall roll lifter:

  1. Position the Drywall: First, place the sheet of drywall into the desired location on the wall or ceiling framing where it will be installed. Let it rest on the floor or existing lower sheet.
  2. Place the Tool: Place the toe of the roll lifter under the bottom of the drywall panel. The 'toe' is the slightly curved or angled end designed to slide under the sheet.
  3. Apply Pressure: With the toe securely under the drywall, push down on the heel of the roll lifter with your shoe. This leverage action causes the toe under the drywall to lift upwards.
  4. Lift to Height: Continue pushing down on the heel until you raise the drywall panel to the desired height. This height is typically just enough to snug the panel against the framing above it, allowing for proper fastening.

This action provides the necessary clearance and upward pressure to position the drywall sheet accurately and hold it steady while you begin fastening it to the wall or ceiling studs.
