Tetavax is a vaccine used for the prevention of tetanus.
It contains tetanus toxoid adsorbed on hydrated aluminium hydroxide. Specifically, each 0.5 mL dose contains tetanus toxoid (³40 iu) and 0.6 mg of hydrated aluminium hydroxide. It also includes a buffer solution containing sodium chloride, disodium phosphate dihydrate, monopotassium phosphate, and water for injection.
In simpler terms, Tetavax works by exposing the body to a harmless form of the tetanus toxin, which then triggers the immune system to produce antibodies. These antibodies protect against future infection by the tetanus bacteria.
Tetanus, also known as lockjaw, is a serious infection caused by Clostridium tetani bacteria. It affects the nervous system and can lead to painful muscle contractions, especially in the jaw and neck. Vaccination, like with Tetavax, is the most effective way to prevent tetanus.
