Creating a new wall type, also known as a wall style, in Vectorworks allows you to save and reuse specific configurations of wall components, textures, and settings across your project. There are a couple of straightforward methods to achieve this.
You can create a new wall type (style) in Vectorworks using one of two primary methods: either from an existing unstyled wall in your drawing or directly through the Resource Manager.
Method 1: Create a New Wall Style from an Unstyled Wall
This is a quick way to capture the properties of a wall you've already configured in your drawing.
- Start by drawing a basic wall without an applied style. Customize its components, thickness, textures, etc., as desired.
- Once your unstyled wall has the properties you want for your new style, Right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on the unstyled wall.
- From the context menu that appears, select the command New Wall Style from Unstyled Wall.
- This action opens the Edit Wall Style dialog box, where you can name your new style, review its settings, and make any final adjustments before saving it as a reusable resource.
Method 2: Create a New Wall Style Using the Resource Manager
The Resource Manager is your central hub for managing various types of resources, including wall styles. This method allows you to create a style from scratch or based on existing styles.
- Open the Resource Manager palette (typically found under the Window menu).
- In the Resource Manager, click New Resource.
- From the list of resource types, select Wall Style.
- Finally, click Create.
- This will open the Edit Wall Style dialog box, where you can define all the parameters for your new wall style, such as components, insertion options, textures, and more, before giving it a name and saving it.
Both methods lead you to the Edit Wall Style dialog box, where you finalize the properties and name of your new wall type, making it available for use throughout your project and in future drawings.
