Is beet sugar vegan?

Published in Vegan Food 1 min read

Yes, beet sugar is vegan.

Beet sugar is derived directly from sugar beets. The production process involves slicing the beets thinly to extract their juice. This juice is then purified and heated to crystallize into sugar. Crucially, the production of beet sugar does not involve the use of bone char for filtration or decolorization. Bone char, derived from animal bones, is sometimes used in the production of cane sugar to achieve a whiter color. Since beet sugar production avoids this process, it is consistently considered a vegan product.
