How to Install Vertical Blinds Inside Mount

Published in Vertical Blind Installation 3 mins read

Installing vertical blinds inside your window frame is a popular choice for a clean, finished look. The process typically involves mounting brackets within the window casing and then attaching the headrail.

Follow these steps for a successful inside mount installation:

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you begin, ensure you have the necessary tools:

  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver (or drill bit)
  • Mounting hardware (screws usually included with blinds)
  • Safety glasses

Step 2: Prepare and Mark Bracket Locations

  • Carefully unpack your blinds and mounting hardware.
  • Hold the headrail up inside the window frame where you intend to install it to get a visual check of the fit.
  • Mark the locations for your mounting brackets. Brackets are usually placed near the ends of the headrail, about 2-4 inches from each end, and potentially one or more in the middle depending on the width of the blind. Use a level to ensure your marks are aligned. Make sure the marks are positioned so the brackets will support the headrail securely within the frame, allowing space for the vanes to hang freely.

Step 3: Install the Mounting Brackets

  • Using your drill, create pilot holes at the marked locations (this makes screwing easier and prevents wood splitting).
  • Align each mounting bracket with the pilot holes.
  • Securely fasten the brackets to the inside of the window frame using the provided screws and your drill or screwdriver. Ensure they are firmly attached to the mounting surface.

Step 4: Attach the Headrail

This is where you connect the main track of the blind to the installed brackets. Based on the reference:

  • Hook the front of your head roll into the brackets. This means aligning the front edge or lip of the headrail with the corresponding hooks or clips on the front of the installed mounting brackets.
  • Once the front is engaged, rotate back until it snaps into place. Gently push the back of the headrail upwards towards the bracket until you hear or feel it click and lock securely into the back of the bracket.

Ensure the headrail is level and firmly seated in all brackets.

Step 5: Install the Vanes

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions for attaching the individual vertical vanes (slats) to the carriers inside the headrail. This usually involves inserting the top of the vane into a slot or hook on the carrier.

Step 6: Install the Control Wand or Cord

  • Attach the control wand or cord mechanism to the designated carrier or hook on the headrail according to the instructions. Test the blind to ensure it opens, closes, and rotates properly.

By following these steps, you can successfully install your vertical blinds with an inside mount, creating a clean and integrated look within your window frame.
