The appendix is a small, finger-shaped pouch that extends from the colon. It is considered a vestigial organ, meaning it no longer serves a significant purpose in the human body. While it was once believed to be a part of the digestive system, it does not play a role in digestion or other bodily functions.
While the appendix may have served a purpose in our evolutionary past, it has become largely useless. It is often removed surgically if it becomes inflamed, a condition known as appendicitis.
