How Do I Change the Rotation in Premiere Pro?

Published in Video Editing 2 mins read

You can change the rotation of a video clip in Adobe Premiere Pro using the Effect Controls panel.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Clip: In your timeline, click on the video clip you want to rotate.

  2. Open Effect Controls: Go to the "Window" menu and select "Effect Controls." This panel typically opens at the top left of your screen.

  3. Locate the Rotation Property: In the Effect Controls panel, under the "Motion" section, you'll find a "Rotation" property.

  4. Adjust the Rotation:

    • Direct Input: Click on the number next to "Rotation" and type in the desired degree of rotation. Positive values rotate clockwise, and negative values rotate counter-clockwise. For example, typing "180" will flip the video upside down.
    • Interactive Rotation: Click and drag on the number to interactively adjust the rotation.
  5. Additional Rotation Options (Swivel and Tilt): Some effects, especially 3D effects, may offer separate Swivel and Tilt rotation options. Swivel rotates the clip on one axis, while Tilt rotates on another. For example, rotating 180 degrees on the swivel axis will flip the video.

Tips:

  • You can also adjust the "Anchor Point" property (also under Motion in the Effect Controls panel) to change the point around which the clip rotates. The default anchor point is the center of the clip.
  • For more complex rotations or animations, you can use keyframes on the Rotation property to gradually change the rotation over time.
