How to Edit Green Screen in Splice?

Published in Video Editing 2 mins read

To edit a green screen effect in Splice, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your Splice project: Start by opening the project in Splice that contains the video clip or photo you want to apply the green screen effect to.

  2. Select the clip with the green screen: On the timeline, tap the specific video clip or photo that has the green screen background you intend to remove.

  3. Access the Chroma Key feature: In the editing toolbar (usually located at the bottom of the screen), look for and select the "Cutout/Chroma Key" option. Depending on the version of Splice, it might appear as "Cutout" followed by "Off (Chroma Key)."

  4. Choose the green color for removal: A color picker will appear on the preview screen. Move this color picker around until it is positioned over the green color you want to remove from the background. Splice will then attempt to remove that selected color, making it transparent.

  5. Fine-tune the effect (if needed): Splice may offer additional controls or sliders to fine-tune the chroma key effect. These controls allow you to adjust parameters like tolerance, strength, or feathering to ensure a clean and seamless removal of the green screen. Experiment with these settings until you achieve the desired result.

By following these steps, you can effectively remove a green screen background in Splice and replace it with another image or video.
