How to Export Low Res in Premiere Pro?

Published in Video Editing 2 mins read

To export a low-resolution video in Adobe Premiere Pro, the key is adjusting the bitrate settings. Specifically, you want to lower the bitrate within the export settings.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open Export Settings: After editing your video, go to File > Export > Media.
  2. Video Tab: In the Export Settings window, navigate to the "Video" tab.
  3. Bitrate Settings: Scroll down to the "Bitrate Settings" section.
  4. CBR (Constant Bitrate): Make sure the "Bitrate Encoding" is set to CBR (Constant Bitrate). CBR will ensure a consistent, and therefore predictable, file size.
  5. Lower Bitrate: Reduce the "Target Bitrate" (and Maximum Bitrate, if applicable). Lowering this number will directly reduce the resolution/quality and file size of the exported video. Experiment with different values until you achieve a satisfactory balance between quality and file size. For very low resolution, you might go as low as 1 Mbps or lower, depending on your video's frame size and complexity.

By lowering the bitrate, you're essentially telling Premiere Pro to use less data to represent each frame of the video, which results in a smaller file size and lower resolution.
