How do I change the scale of a floor plan in Visio?

Published in Visio Floor Plan 2 mins read

To change the scale of a floor plan in Visio, adjust the drawing scale in the Page Setup. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the page tab of the page you want to modify. The page tab is located at the bottom of the Visio window.

  2. Click "Page Setup..." from the context menu that appears. This will open the Page Setup dialog box.

  3. Select the "Drawing Scale" tab. This tab contains options for adjusting the drawing scale of your floor plan.

  4. Choose a Pre-defined Scale or Set a Custom Scale:

    • Pre-defined Scale: Select the "Pre-defined scale" option and choose a scale from the dropdown list. Visio offers common architectural, metric, and engineering scales. Selecting a pre-defined scale ensures your drawing aligns with a standard scaling convention.

    • Custom Scale: Select the "Custom Scale" option if you need a specific scale not found in the pre-defined list. Enter the desired values in the "Drawing distance" and "Represents actual distance" boxes. For example, you might enter "1" in the "Drawing distance" box and "48" in the "Represents actual distance" box to set the scale to 1:48 (1 inch on the drawing represents 48 inches in reality).

  5. Click "Apply" and then "OK." This applies the new scale to your floor plan. The shapes and dimensions on your drawing will be adjusted according to the selected scale.

Changing the scale affects how Visio interprets dimensions and distances within your floor plan. Properly setting the scale is crucial for accurate representations and collaboration.
