Purpose of the Rotary Drum Screen

The main purpose of the rotary drum screen is to sort out various fine and coarse matters from a liquid stream, typically water. It acts as a mechanical filter.

How the Screening Process Works

The operation of a rotary drum screen follows a straightforward gravitational principle:

  1. Water Introduction: The water first flows into a container. This container typically serves as an inlet area where the raw liquid gathers before being processed.
  2. Pouring onto the Drum: From this container, the water is poured onto a circular drum screen. The drum is cylindrical and rotates, covered with a screen mesh of a specific size.
  3. Gravitational Sifting: As the raw water mixed with debris encounters the rotating drum screen, it will then pass through the drum screen gravitationally to be sifted. The liquid passes through the mesh openings, while solid particles larger than the mesh size are retained on the screen's surface.
  4. Debris Separation: As the drum rotates, the captured debris is typically carried to one end of the drum or removed by a cleaning mechanism (like sprays or brushes), separating it from the filtered liquid.

This process effectively uses the rotating motion and gravity to continuously screen the liquid, allowing clean fluid to pass while removing unwanted solids.
