To use a hard water test strip, insert the strip into the water source you want to test. Hold it there for approximately three seconds, then set it aside for approximately 20 seconds to allow the colors to develop. After 20 seconds, compare the colors on the strip to the color chart on the packaging to determine the water's hardness level.
