Using scented wax blocks is a simple way to fill your home with fragrance. You typically place the wax block into a wax warmer, where heat melts it and releases its scent.
Scented wax blocks, also known as wax melts or cubes, are designed to be heated in a wax warmer. These warmers can be electric, plugging into a wall outlet, or tea light warmers, which use a small candle to generate heat.
Here's a simple breakdown of how to use them:
- Choose Your Warmer: Select an electric wax warmer or a tea light warmer that is specifically designed for wax melts.
- Place the Wax: Take one or more wax blocks from their packaging and place them into the dish or basin at the top of your warmer. Avoid overfilling the dish.
- Activate the Warmer:
- Electric Warmer: Plug the warmer into a power outlet and turn it on if it has a switch. The heat source (usually a bulb or heating element) will begin to warm the dish.
- Tea Light Warmer: Place a standard, unscented tea light candle in the base of the warmer and light it. The flame will heat the dish above.
- Enjoy the Scent: As the warmer heats up, the solid wax will begin to melt. As shown in the reference, the melted wax will just turn from the cube form and take the dish shape, melting right into the dish shape. This liquid wax then releases its fragrance into the air.
- Turn Off the Warmer: When you are finished enjoying the scent, turn off your electric warmer or extinguish the tea light candle. The wax will solidify again as it cools.
You can reheat the same wax block multiple times until the fragrance fades.
Safety Tips for Using Wax Melts
- Always place warmers on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, children, and pets.
- Never add water or any other liquids to the melting wax.
- Do not move a warmer while the wax is melted and hot.
- Keep flammable materials away from the warmer.
- Extinguish tea lights completely and ensure electric warmers are turned off when leaving the room or going to sleep.
Changing or Disposing of Wax
When the wax is no longer fragrant, you'll need to remove it.
- Method 1 (Cooled Wax): Once the wax has cooled and hardened, you can often gently pop the solid disc out of the dish. If it's stuck, briefly reheat the wax for just a minute or two to loosen the edges, then slide it out.
- Method 2 (Melted Wax - Use caution): While the wax is still warm and liquid (but not too hot), you can carefully pour it into a disposable container like an old jar or paper cup lined with paper towels. Wipe the dish clean with a paper towel.
Dispose of the used wax and paper towels in the trash.
