While white blood cells (WBCs) are called "white", they are actually colorless. This is because they lack the pigment hemoglobin found in red blood cells. However, when examined under a microscope and stained with dye, they can appear as a very light purple to pink color. This is due to the dye staining the cellular components of the WBCs.
