What is a crush grip bench?

Published in Weightlifting 1 min read

A crush grip bench press (often performed with dumbbells) is a variation of the standard bench press where you actively squeeze the dumbbells together throughout the exercise, typically at chest height.

This variation emphasizes:

  • Inner chest activation: The squeezing action focuses on engaging the muscles of the inner chest more intensely than a traditional bench press.
  • Muscle control and stability: Maintaining the squeeze requires greater control and stability, further engaging supporting muscles.

The technique involves holding dumbbells close together above your chest and squeezing them inward as you press upward. This constant inward pressure helps to better target the inner pectoral muscles.
