How do I open old Paint in Windows 10?

Published in Windows 10 Software 1 min read

To open the classic version of Paint (mspaint.exe) in Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows logo key + E to open File Explorer.
  2. In File Explorer, navigate to the following directory: C:\Windows\System32.
  3. Locate the file named mspaint.exe and double-click on it. This should launch the classic Paint application.
  4. (Optional) To create a desktop shortcut for easier access, right-click on mspaint.exe, hover over "Send to," and select "Desktop (create shortcut)." This will place a shortcut icon on your desktop that you can use to quickly open Paint in the future.

This method allows you to access the older version of Paint even if you're using the newer Paint 3D as your default image editor. Remember, this assumes the classic Paint application hasn't been completely removed from your system during an update.
