How to tile Windows in Windows 11?

Published in Windows 11 Tiling 2 mins read

Tiling windows in Windows 11 can be achieved using Snap Layouts or keyboard shortcuts.

Using Snap Layouts

Snap Layouts provide a quick and visual way to arrange windows. Here's how to use them:

  1. Hover over the Maximize/Restore button: Hover your mouse cursor over the maximize/restore button (the square icon) located at the top right corner of any window.
  2. Choose a layout: A set of pre-defined snap layouts will appear. These layouts show different arrangements for tiling your windows (e.g., two windows side-by-side, four windows in a grid, etc.).
  3. Click a layout option: Click on the layout that you want to use. The current window will snap into the position selected in the layout.
  4. Select the remaining windows: Windows 11 will then display thumbnails of your other open windows. Click on a thumbnail to fill the next spot in your chosen layout. Repeat until all desired positions are filled, or until you cancel the task.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

You can also tile windows using keyboard shortcuts:

  1. Select a window: Click on the window you want to tile.
  2. Use the Windows key + Arrow keys:
    • Windows key + Left Arrow: Snaps the window to the left half of the screen.
    • Windows key + Right Arrow: Snaps the window to the right half of the screen.
    • Windows key + Up Arrow: Maximizes the window (if it's not already maximized) or snaps to the top half when used subsequently.
    • Windows key + Down Arrow: Minimizes the window (if maximized) or snaps to the bottom half after snapping to the top.

Once you snap a window using a keyboard shortcut, Windows might prompt you to select another open window to fill the remaining space, similar to using snap layouts.
