How do I turn off the touchscreen on Windows 11?

Published in Windows 11 Tips 2 mins read

You can disable the touchscreen on your Windows 11 computer through Device Manager. Here's how:

  1. Open Device Manager: Search for "Device Manager" in the Windows search bar and open the application.

  2. Locate HID-compliant touch screen(s): In Device Manager, expand the "Human Interface Devices" category by clicking the arrow next to it.

  3. Disable the Touchscreen(s):

    • You may see one or more entries labeled "HID-compliant touch screen."
    • Right-click on the "HID-compliant touch screen" you want to disable.
    • Select "Disable device" from the context menu.
  4. Confirm the Disabling: Windows will prompt you to confirm your choice. Click "Yes" to proceed.

The touchscreen will now be disabled. To re-enable it, simply repeat the steps above, but select "Enable device" instead of "Disable device" in step 3.

Important Considerations:

  • If you have multiple monitors or touch devices, be sure to disable the correct "HID-compliant touch screen" entry. You might need to experiment to identify the right one. Disabling the wrong device won't harm your system, but it might not achieve the desired result.
  • If you don't see the "Human Interface Devices" category, make sure "Show hidden devices" is enabled in the View menu.
