Published in Windows 11 2 mins read

You can split screen on Windows 11 using keyboard shortcuts or by dragging windows to the edges of the screen.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

The quickest way to split screen on Windows 11 is to use keyboard shortcuts:

  1. Select the first window you want to use in split screen.
  2. Press the Windows key + Left arrow key to snap the window to the left side of the screen. Alternatively, Press the Windows key + Right arrow key to snap it to the right.
  3. Choose the second window from the available thumbnails to fill the other half of the screen.

Using Drag and Drop

You can also split screen by dragging windows to the edges of your screen:

  1. Click and hold the title bar of the window you want to split screen.
  2. Drag the window to the left or right edge of the screen until you see an outline indicating where the window will snap.
  3. Release the mouse button to snap the window into place.
  4. Select the second window you want to use from the remaining options. Windows will automatically fill the remaining space.

Using Snap Layouts

Windows 11 also includes a snap layouts feature, giving you more granular control over window placement:

  1. Hover your mouse cursor over the maximize/restore button (the square icon) in the top-right corner of a window.
  2. A panel will appear with different layout options. Select the layout you prefer.
  3. Click on each area of the layout to select the windows you want to place there.

This method allows for configurations beyond a simple split screen, such as having three or four windows arranged on your screen.
