How to Find and View Windows Lock Screen Image Files

Published in Windows Lock Screen Images 3 mins read

While you cannot directly "view" multiple pictures on the active Lock screen itself, you can easily access the folder where Windows stores the images used for features like Windows Spotlight. This allows you to see the various stunning photographs that have appeared on your Lock screen.

Here's how to find those stored image files:

Steps to Locate Your Lock Screen Images

Follow these simple steps to navigate to the hidden folder containing the Windows Spotlight images:

  1. Press the Win + R keys simultaneously on your keyboard. This action opens the Run dialog box, a quick way to launch applications or open specific folders.

  2. In the "Open:" field of the Run dialog box, enter the following path:

    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
    • This path is where Windows typically stores the images downloaded for the Lock screen's Windows Spotlight feature.
    • Reference Note: As indicated in the reference, you use the Run dialog and a specific path starting with %localappdata%\Packages\ Microsoft. Windows . ... to launch File Explorer and navigate to the storage folder.
  3. Click OK or press Enter.

Voila! File Explorer will open, and you will be taken directly to the Assets folder where Windows stores its lock screen images.

What You'll Find in the Assets Folder

Inside the Assets folder, you will see many files with generic or random names and no file extension (like .jpg or .png). These are the image files. To view them, you will need to:

  • Copy the files you're interested in to another folder (like your Pictures folder).
  • Rename the copied files and add a .jpg extension at the end (e.g., image01.jpg).

Once you add the .jpg extension, you can open these files using your standard image viewer to see the full-resolution Lock screen pictures. Note that some files in the folder might be small icons or other assets, not full images. You can usually identify image files by their larger file size.

By following these steps, you can easily access and view the collection of beautiful images that Windows has used for your Lock screen.
