You can open multiple photos in Windows 11 using the built-in Photos app, but keep in mind the "Multi-View" feature has limitations.
Opening Multiple Photos
Here's how to open multiple photos in Windows 11:
- Navigate to the Folder: Open File Explorer and go to the folder containing the photos you want to open.
- Select the Photos:
- Using the Mouse and Ctrl Key: Hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on each photo you want to select.
- Using the Shift Key for a Range: Click on the first photo in a sequence, then hold down the Shift key and click on the last photo in the sequence to select all photos in between.
- Using Checkboxes: If available, you can select photos using checkboxes by hovering over them.
- Open the Selected Photos: Right-click on any of the selected photos, and choose "Open" from the context menu. This will typically open the photos in the Windows Photos app, displaying the first image. You can then navigate through the opened photos using the arrow keys or the on-screen controls.
Using Multi-View (Collage View)
Windows 11 has a "Multi-View" option in the Photos app.
- Limitation: This feature only works for photos located in the same folder.
- Selecting Photos: Select multiple photos directly from the filmstrip view within the Photos app.
- Display: Once selected, the Photos app may show them in a collage-like view. Note that its functionality may be limited and is not as intuitive as simply selecting and opening files.
Important Considerations:
- The "Multi-View" feature's behavior can sometimes be unpredictable and might not always present the selected photos in a collage.
- Third-party photo viewers often provide more robust multi-image viewing capabilities.
