How do you remove Window Security?

Published in Windows Security 2 mins read

Turning off Windows Security (formerly Windows Defender) involves disabling its real-time protection feature. This is generally not recommended as it leaves your system vulnerable to threats. However, if you have a specific reason, here's how to do it:

Steps to Disable Real-Time Protection in Windows Security:

  1. Open Windows Security: Click the Start button and type "Windows Security." Select the "Windows Security" app from the search results.

  2. Navigate to Virus & Threat Protection: In the Windows Security app, click on "Virus & threat protection."

  3. Access Manage Settings: Under the "Virus & threat protection settings" section, click on "Manage settings."

  4. Disable Real-time Protection: Toggle the "Real-time protection" switch to "Off." You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to confirm the change. Click "Yes" to proceed.

Important Considerations:

  • Temporary Solution: Disabling real-time protection is typically a temporary measure. Windows Security may automatically re-enable it after a period of time or after a system restart.

  • Security Risks: Turning off Windows Security significantly increases the risk of malware infection. Only disable it if you have a strong understanding of security risks and are using an alternative security solution. Ensure you re-enable it as soon as possible.

  • Group Policy: In some corporate environments, Group Policy settings might prevent you from disabling Windows Security.

  • Alternative Security Software: Before disabling Windows Security, ensure you have another reputable antivirus or anti-malware program installed and actively running to maintain system security. Examples include Bitdefender, Norton, and McAfee.

Warning: Disabling your security software makes you vulnerable. Proceed with extreme caution and only if you know what you are doing. Remember to turn the security back on as soon as possible.
