How to Clean Rubberwood?
Learn how to effectively clean rubberwood using simple methods and specific solutions for common issues like spills. Maintaining the beauty and durability of your rubberwood furniture or surfaces requires regular cleaning and targeted treatments for spills or deeper cleaning needs.
For everyday cleaning, the most effective method is using a simple, gentle solution.
- Wash with warm water and a mild soapy solution. This approach helps remove surface dirt and grime without damaging the wood finish. Use a soft cloth dampened (not soaking wet) with the solution and wipe down the surface. Immediately dry the area with a clean, dry cloth.
Deep Cleaning and Protection
For a more thorough clean or to protect the wood, especially cuts or damaged areas, a specific solution can be used.
- Prepare a deep-cleaning solution with turpentine and boiled linseed oil. This mixture is excellent for deep cleaning and importantly, it will seal the woodcuts and protect them from further damage. Apply sparingly with a cloth, working it into the wood, and then wipe off any excess.
Handling Spills on Rubberwood
Spills should be addressed quickly, but specific types of spills may require different treatments.
Alcoholic Spills
- For alcoholic spills, use a few drops of ammonia on a cloth to gently blot and clean the affected area.
Old or Stubborn Spills
- For old spills, prepare a paste using rottenstone and lemon oil to clean the stubborn residue. Apply the paste, rub gently with the grain, and then wipe clean.
By following these steps, you can keep your rubberwood looking its best, addressing both routine cleaning and specific issues like spills or the need for deeper protection.
